| This is the first we have heard of
witchcraft, poisonings, unexplained illnesses, and malicious spirits,
but they play an important role here. Later, others tell us that there
are jealousies among city and rural Weya artists, jealousies that are
adjudicated by good and evil spirits.
"I was ill myself in 1990 from May to November, so I did not attend the
first exhibition at the National Gallery," Loice volunteers. |

     "I couldn't work while I was sick."
"What made you sick? "People wanted to kill me at Weya because I had
orders and was earning too much money." "When you say people wanted
to kill you, do you mean they were so jealous that they just felt like killing
you, or that they really wanted you dead?" "They wanted me dead." |
